Saints Week in Review
December 2, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â Coming off a month where the team played 15-games in 30-days, the Saints now face a December where they play 14-games in 27-days, including four stretches of 3-games in 3-days. But, as other teams face similar schedules, it is sure to be a busy month for all. This week the Saints play at home against Corpus Christi on Thursday, and on the road to Corpus Christi and Odessa Friday and Saturday.
Upcoming Promotions â December 14th the Saints will host a "Teddy Toss" to benefit Toys for Tots. Other promotions this month include Santa Claus at several games, special Stocking Stuffer deals on Saints merchandise, free puck give-aways and several different chances to win cash.
Week In Review â The Saints went 0-3 this week with home losses to Austin and Oklahoma City, and a road loss against El Paso.
November 27th / Austin 4 - San Angelo 2 / The Saints played the league's top team to a standstill, but just couldn't generate enough offense as they dropped to 0-3 against the Ice Bats on the season. Kori Davison and Troy Mann lit the lamp for the Saints while Gerald Tallaire, Mike Rees, Dan Price and Tab Lardner scored for the Bats who held the Saints to just four 3rd period shots.
November 29th / San Angelo 4 - El Paso 7 / In a game where the Saints actually out-shot their opponents, the first period was evenly played and ended tied 2-2. But, three unanswered goals in the 2nd period by the Buzzards put them up 5-2 heading into the 3rd. The Saints got two goals in the 3rd period, but so did the Buzzards to preserve the win. Jamie Ronayne struggled a bit in the net in his first game back from injury, but Scott Reid didn't fare much better and actually got saddled with the loss.
November 30th / Oklahoma City 5 - San Angelo 4/ The Saints snatched defeat from the jaws of victory this night as the Blazers got 3 goals in the final 3 minutes (including two in the final 33 seconds) to pull off the unlikely win. With the Saint leading 4-2, Peter Robertson scored at the 2:50 mark of the 3rd period to make it 4-3. Then, with the goalie pulled and 33 seconds remaining, the Blazers tied it up on a nifty goal by Peter Arvanitis off a face-off in the Saints end. With only 9 seconds left Blair Manning batted a deflected puck out of the air and into the Saints net for the win â leaving the dazed Saints wondering what could have been and handing the loss the goaltender Scott Reid, despite his 54 save effort in a game that saw the Blazers out-shoot the Saints 59-20.
Injury Report â The Saints are finally starting to get healthy again. Jason Abel and Cory Pecush are back in the line-up and Blake Sheane is ready to go as well. Coach Brent Scott has some decisions to make this week about who to keep as all the team's forwards get healthy â with, potentially, 12 forwards fighting for 9-10 slots.
