Silver Named CHL Goaltender of the Week
December 2, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that goaltender Shawn Silver was selected as this week's CHL Goaltender of the Week.
Silver, who has now won the award in two of the last four weeks, was a "wall of defense" once again for the Icemen last weekend as he earned a pair of back to back wins against last year's CHL Champion, the Memphis RiverKings.
The 27-year-old netminder stopped 25 of 26 shots in a 4-1 win over Memphis on Thanksgiving evening from the Pepsi Coliseum and followed that performance with a 33-save shutout on Friday night in Memphis in the team's 3-0 victory from the DeSoto Civic Center.
Overall numbers for the week included a 2-0-0 record, 0.50 goals-against average, one shutout and an incredible .983 save percentage (58/59). In the process, Silver lowered his GAA 26 points from the week before to 1.68, while raising his save percentage ten points from the week before to .940., ranking him second overall in the CHL in both categories.
