
Newcomers prevail in 6-3 win

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-On May 17, 2005 the Salem Avalanche welcomed three new players when the team played Winston-Salem. Mario Garza, Scott Robinson, and Saul Torres were just promoted from Lexington in the South Atlantic League and each got a hit in their first Avalanche game. Thursday night the Avalanche welcomed three new players to the ballclub and pulled out a win against the Winston-Salem Warthogs by a score of 6-3.
Ben Zobrist hit in the leadoff spot for the Avalanche. He went 1-3 with a single. Jonny Ash played second base and got the game-winning hit. Left-handed Relief Pitcher Jeff Wigdahl threw an inning and a third and picked up his first save with the Avalanche.
Pat Peavey hit a two-run single in the third inning. The Avalanche now improve to 4-3 in the second half of the season and will continue their nine-game road trip tomorrow at Earnie-Shore Field.
