Frederick Keys News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Frederick Keys (3-4) could not rally in the late innings, as Myrtle Beach (3-5) would avenge their loss from the previous night, winning 6-3.

The Pelicans would strike first in the bottom of the third inning, as Mike Rozema led off with a double to center field. Two batters later Steve Doetsch tripled to right field scoring Rozema. Martin Prado and Josh Burrus followed with back-to-back doubles, before Matt Esquivel singled to score Burrus. Mark Jurich doubled to center to drive in Esquivel to give the Pelicans a 5-0 lead.

Josh McCurdy would double to left field in the top of the fourth inning to score Brandon Florence, making the score 5-1. But Burrus' single to left field scored Prado letting Myrtle Beach their five run lead.

In the top of the seventh the Keys would score twice when Ryan Hubele doubled to score Josh McCurdy. Hubele later scored when Gera Alvarez grounded into a double play, bringing the Keys within three.

Dan Smith and Joey Devine would hold the Keys scoreless the rest of the way to help Jake Stevens (5-6) earn his fifth win. Stevens tossed 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits, giving up just one run, while striking out six.

Fredy Deza (2-4) took the loss allowing six runs on ten hits. Richard Salazar, David Haehnel and Marino Salas held the Pelicans scoreless the rest of the way.

Frederick will play Myrtle Beach once more on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. LHP Adam Loewen will start for Frederick, before the Keys travel to Lynchburg to play three with the Hillcats.
