
Jose Vidro on rehab assignment with the Potomac Nationals

Washington Nationals second baseman Jose Vidro, who was placed on the Nationals DL May 5, 2005 with high and lateral left ankle sprain and torn peroneal tendon outside the ankle, will join the Potomac Nationals in Woodbridge, VA on a rehab assignment starting Thursday June 30, 2005 as the P-Nats host the Kinston Indians. Vidro will lead off as the designated hitter during his first two games and how he feels afterward will determine when he plays the field.
This season marks Vidro's eighth in the majors and 13th with the Montreal/Washington organization. He made his major league debut on June 6, 1997 with the Expos. This season, Vidro played in 28 games for Washington averaging.290 at the plate with 15 RBI and four home runs before injuring his ankle in a game against the Dodgers on May 4. He holds a .304 career batting average with 486 RBI and 105 home runs.

Frank Diaz named to Carolina League Player of the Week
Potomac Nationals outfielder Frank Diaz has been named Player of the week for the week of June 20-26.
Diaz, a recent selection to the XM Satellite Radio's All-Star Futures roster, batted .407 through six games going 11-for-27 with one double, two triples and two home runs to drive in 10 runs. His slugging percentage was .815 for the week and he is currently ranked second in the league in hits (89) and triples (5) and tied for third in doubles (22) with teammate Kory Casto and Winston-Salem's Travis Hinton.
Kinston Indians RHP Sean Smith was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week.
Smith struck out nine through 14 innings in two starts last week, posting a 1.93 ERA for the period. He issued only four walks, and allowed four runs, only three of them earned. The wins evened his record at 3-3.
Bid on Potomac Nationals Jerseys for a good cause! Join the Potomac Nationals, the ALS Association and WINC FM as they fight for ALS on Friday July 15, 2005. The Nationals will auction off player jerseys worn during the game against Lynchburg. The winning bidders will receive the jersey from the player following the game. All proceeds will go to the ALS Association.
Join the Potomac Nationals at our annual baseball camp July 18-20! The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Children ages 8-14 will work in small groups with Nationals players and coaches to learn hitting skills, work on base running skills and play scrimmage games. Campers will also receive daily lunch, a t-shirt, autographs and 2 tickets to the Potomac Nationals game on July 20 at 7:05. The cost for the camp is $120 per child and the deadline for registration is Wednesday July 13. LHP Brett Reid allowed only one hit in eight innings. The P-Nats had 16 hits and Carolina League All-Star Salomon Manriquez went 5-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBI.
June 25 Frederick 6 Potomac 4
Futures All-Star, Frank Diaz tied the game up twice. In the first, he blasted a ball over the fence in left to score two and in the third he singled to left scoring Marcos Yepez. Diaz finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI
June 26 Potomac 8 Frederick 0
LHP Mike Hinckley allowed only two hits in eight innings. The P-Nats offense went a perfect 8-for-8 with 8 RBI. Chad Chop went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Diaz was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.
June 28 CAR League 8 CAL League 0
Kory Casto started at third and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and an RBI, Manriquez went 1-for-2 with a broken bat double, Josh Whitesell went 0-for-2 with a walk and Armando Galarraga pitched a perfect third inning fanning two batters and getting one to groundout.

Jose Vidro joined the P-Nats on a rehab assignment. Vidro started at DH and went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Doc Brooks and Seth Bynum also had back-to-back homers in the sixth.
The Nationals continue the series against Kinston tonight at 7:05. RHP Devin Perrin will be on the mound for Potomac. Kinston will send RHP Ronald Bay to counter. Saturday will be the final game of the series against the Indians. The Nationals will start another three game series against Myrtle Beach on Sunday at 6:35.

Day Care/ Summer Camp Days are back! Day Care/Summer Camp days are among the most popular events of the summer and once again, two games will be designated for these groups. Grandstand tickets will be available for $4.00 to all Day Cares and Summer Camp students and group leaders. In addition, coupons for a hot dog and small soda will be available for $2.00 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance in order to get the special rate and must be a group of at least 20. Day Care/Summer Camp Days will be held on July 5th and August 10th. Both games will start at 12:05 P.M. with gates opening at 11:00 A.M.
The LAST Scout Night of the season is coming soon!! Friday August 5th, Scout Troops of all kinds are invited to enjoy exciting Carolina League baseball followed by the movie: Little Big League (PG) on the scoreboard and an on-field campout at Pfitzner Stadium. Tickets are available to groups of 20 or more for $8.00 in Reserved seating and $6.00 in the Grandstand. Anyone, however, with a valid ticket from that night's game will be invited to camp out as well.
