New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. (July 10, 2014) - The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have mutually agreed to part ways with midfielder Jonny Steele.
"Jonny had an offer from outside of Major League Soccer and we have agreed to his request to depart the club. We appreciate Jonny's contributions over the past two seasons and wish him the best of luck in the future," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. "With the open roster spot and available salary cap space from his departure, we are looking to add to the squad in the coming weeks."
Steele was signed on Feb. 20, 2013 after his rights were acquired from Real Salt Lake in exchange for a conditional draft pick. Last season, the Northern Ireland international played in 33 games, recording five goals and six assists. This season, the 28-year-old featured in 15 games (six starts) and scored a goal and two assists.
Tickets are available for the Red Bulls' next match against the Columbus Crew Saturday at Red Bull Arena at 7:00 PM by calling 1.877.727.6223 or logging onto tickets.newyorkredbulls.com.
