MEMPHIS, TN - New Orleans hammered Memphis 17-3 Friday night at AutoZone Park behind a record 13-run, fourth inning rally.
The Zephyrs scored 13 runs in the fourth inning on 10 hits en route to victory. The 13 runs scored is the most runs allowed in an inning by a Memphis professional baseball team. New Orleans hit three, three-run home runs during the rally with five different players scoring two runs each. Brad Davis, Scott Cousins and Donnie Murphy all hit three-run homers in the fourth and Hector Luna added a solo shot in the eighth. Murphy finished the night with four hits, three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Z's 20-hit attack. Joe Mather led Memphis with two hits and two runs scored.
New Orleans starter Brian Lawrence was the beneficiary of the Zephyrs offensive onslaught, earning the win with seven innings of work. The right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts. Redbirds starter Lance Lynn took the loss giving up eight runs on nine hits in just 3.2 innings.
Memphis and New Orleans play tomorrow night with game time slated for 6:05 p.m. and post-game fireworks. The Redbirds will honor former Memphis Red Sox players prior to the game.
