
New Haven Pitching Silences Jackals Bats

Little Falls, NJ- The New Haven County Cutters pitching silenced the New Jersey Jackal bats, only allowing three hits, in a 7-1 victory.
New Jersey would manage to put one of the board in the top of the second. Two singles and an error loaded the bases for Craig Conway, with one out, and he lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Kevin Grijak, to give the Jackals the early 1-0 lead.
The Cutters would counter in their half of the second. After a walk by Billy Rich, Ryan Kane would double to tie the game. Kane would score on a single by Kevin Forbes to give the Cutters a 2-1. After adding on one more on a Tyrone Pendergrass RBI single, Gavin Fingleson doubled into the right-center field gap scoring two. The Cutters led 5-1 after two innings.
In the seventh off New Jersey reliever Lance Odom, New Haven would tack on two more runs. Odom would balk one run across the plate, and Billy Rich would single, scoring Jimmy Hurst from third.
New Jersey starter Brad Whitworth would settle down after the breakout second inning for the Cutters. Whitworth pitched six innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits. Whitworth was awarded the loss.
Following suit was Jordy Alexander. Alexander went six innings, giving up only three hits, one run, no earned runs, and striking out three. He got the win
Ryan Kane was 2-4 with a single, a double, a run scored and one RBI for New Haven. Billy Rich was also 2-3 with two singles and an RBI.
Kevin Grijak was 1-4 with a single and a run scored for the Jackals.
