BROCKTON – Despite staking the North Shore Spirit to an early three-run lead, the Rox came back with five unanswered runs to take the second game of the four-game series between the Northeast League's top teams, Tuesday night at Campanelli Stadium, 5-3. The win extends the Rox lead over the Spirit in the North division to 1-1/2 games.

The Spirit scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings – including Brian Maachi's first home run of the season – to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

The Rox climbed to within one run in the fourth. With two out, Francisco Matos – whose two hits on the night raised his league-leading average to .420 – singled to left, and scored on Jake Daubert's (2-for-4, 3 RBI) home run to left. Daubert's blast, his sixth of the season, put him in a three-way tie – with teammate Brian Jones and North Shore's Vic Davilla – for the league home run lead.

The Rox took the lead in the fifth as Kris Zacuto (1-for-3) and Abner Arroyo (1-for-4) singled and Aaron Fera (1-for-3) walked to load the bases. Zacuto scored on Jones's (1-for-4) single to center, and Arroyo scored on Matos's single to right, to give the Rox a 5-3 lead that would stand up.

Rox starter Derek Andersen (2-1) picked up the win, going seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out seven. Tony Runion came on in the ninth to pick up his league-leading fifth save. Tony Stutz pitched an inning of relief in the eighth and did not allow a base runner.

The Rox (14-5) and Spirit (12-6) meet again at Campanelli Wednesday at 7:11 p.m. Tickets are available.
