
New Hampshire opens with 7-6 win Saturday afternoon

(Manchester, NH)---Catcher Erik Kratz drove in three runs with a homer and a single as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened the season with a 7-6 win over the New Britain Rock Cats before 4,244 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Kratz hit a two-run homer off reliever Anthony Swarzak (0-1) in the fifth inning to give the Fisher Cats its first lead, at 5-3. His sixth inning RBI single extended the lead to 7-3.
Mike MacDonald (1-0) worked five innings to earn the win. Lee Gronkiewicz, the fifth New Hampshire pitcher, earned the save by getting two outs with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, and working through the ninth.
Trailing 3-0 in the third, the Fisher Cats rallied to tie the game. LF Aaron Mathews doubled home a run and CF Wayne Lydon hit a two-run homer.
1B Chip Cannon hit a solo shot to lead off the sixth inning for the Fisher Cats.
New Britain outhit New Hampshire 10-8. C Korey Feiner had three singles and drove in two runs in the 8th inning as the Rock Cats closed to 7-5.
LF Garrett Guzman went 3-for-5 and hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to make it 7-6 before Gronkiewicz struck out 1B Brock Peterson to end the game.
After an off day, New Hampshire continues its season-opening homestand on Monday night at 6:35pm when the Connecticut Defenders (San Francisco AA) come to town. RHP Kyle Yates is scheduled to start for the Fisher Cats. Kids eat free on Monday, and fans can play Subs USA Baseball Bingo. It's also US Cellular Most Improved Student Night.
