Bats Get Going In 8-5 Thunder Win

(Trenton, NJ) - CF Brett Gardner and 2B gabe Lopez had three RBI apiece, while C Jason Brown had three hits and two runs scored, to lead the Trenton Thunder to an 8-5 win over Bowie on Saturday afternoon.

Trenton (2-2) broke a 2-2 tie in the 4th Inning with three runs off Bowie reliever Rosman Garcia. With two men on and one out, Gardner tripled into right-center scoring Brown and 3B Aarom Baldiris for a 4-2 lead. Gardner later scored on an infield single by LF Justin Christian. After Bowie (1-2) got a run back in the top of the fifth, the Thunder added three more runs off Garcia in the bottom half. Lopez doubled home a pair of runs with Gardner adding an RBI single. Garcia (0-1) allowed six runs (five earned) in 1 1/3 innings for the loss. Baysox pitchers hurt themselves with nine walks in the game, four by starter Radhames Liz.

Trenton starter Alan Horne picked up the win with five effective innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. Horne (1-0) walked two and struck out seven. The bullpen combination of Scott Patterson, Michael Gardner, Edwar Ramirez and Paul Torp each worked an inning of relief for the Thunder. Thorp pitched a scoreless 9th Inning for his 1st save.

For Bowie, Freehold, NJ native Val Majewski led their offense with three hits and three RBI.

After an off-day for Easter on Sunday, Trenton is back to work against Harrisburg on Monday at 7:05 PM. Brett Smith makes his 2007 debut for Trenton against the Senators Beltran Perez.
