Nelson, Harrilchak lead M-Braves to 5-2 victory

PEARL, MS-Dan Nelson turned in a perfect night at the plate, three singles and two runs scored, to lead the M-Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Smokies at Trustmark Park. Cory Harrilchak also had two hits and two RBIs on the night.

M-Braves (11-12, 36-57) starter Luis Avilan (2-4) went six innings, limiting Tennessee (10-13, 53-40) to just one earned run on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Benino Pruneda came on to record the final two outs and notch his sixth save of the season.

Smokies' starter Dallas Beeler (1-5) gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Jae-Hoon Ha led off the game with a double to center field. Walks to Ty Wright and Rebel Ridling loaded the bases for a Josh Vitters sac fly, ultimately giving the Smokies a 1-0 lead.

The M-Braves tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Dan Nelson singled and moved to second on a ground out before scoring on a Cory Harrilchak single to right field.

Braeden Schlehuber singled and moved to second on a sac bunt in the third. He then took third on a Tyler Pastornicky ground out. A passed ball allowed Richardson to score, giving the M-Braves a 2-1 advantage.

Nelson singled and moved to third on a Mycal Jones double. Harrilchak then drove in Nelson on a ground out to first and Jones came in on a wild throw by Ridling, giving the Braves a 4-1 lead in the fourth.

Harrilchak doubled and moved to third on a Schlehuber sac bunt. Sean Henry followed with an RBI-single to center field to make it a 5-1 game.

Nate Samson, Ty Wright, and Ridling all singled to load the bases in the eighth. Vitters then grounded into a double play, allowing Samson to score and close the gap to 5-2.

Right-hander Paul Clemens (6-5, 3.90) toes the rubber in Sunday afternoon's contest where he'll take on Smokies' righty Trey McNutt (1-3, 4.80). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM. Gates open at 4:00 PM.
