Mobile BayBears News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jake Elmore's tiebreaking, two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning on Friday night at AT&T Field guided the BayBears by the Chattanooga Lookouts in a 4-2 game two victory after a 7-4 loss in the opener snapped the BayBears' win streak at 11.

Elmore's blast came with two outs in the 11th inning against Ethan Martin (0-2) as he Elmore surged the ball just to the right of straightaway center field, bringing home Dan Kaczrowski as well. Kaczrowski extended the frame with a single which was the first hit by the BayBears (55-37, 17-5) since the sixth inning.

Chattanooga (48-44, 13-9) leveled the score in the bottom of the sixth against Bryan Woodall as Scott Van Slyke doubled and scored on a wild pitch. That was the only blemish against the BayBears' pen as Woodall worked two innings before Mike DeMark, Ryan Cook (1-4) and Billy Spottiswood (S, 1) shut the door for the rest of the night.

Tom Layne started for the BayBears and tossed five frames while surrendering a run on five hits. Chattanooga starter Chris Withrow overcame eight walks and three errors in his four-plus innings to limit the BayBears to two runs. Kaczrowski and Ryan Wheeler each picked up an RBI.

In the first ballgame, Tyler Skaggs (0-1) made his highly-anticipated Double-A debut and was socked for five runs on eight hits in four innings. Skaggs picked up six strikeouts but coughed up three runs in the first as Hector Gimenez drilled an RBI double before Van Slyke popped a two-run homer.

Michael Antonini (8-8) kept the BayBears behind through his five innings although Paul Goldschmidt connected for his league-leading 27th home run in the third. Goldschmidt is just one dinger away from matching the BayBears' record for most homers in a season which was set by Greg Sain in 2004. A.J. Pollock extended his hitting streak to 20 games in the first contest on Friday but flied out as a pinch-hitter in the 11th inning of game two to fall one short of also equaling a BayBears' record.

The BayBears continue a six-game road trip at AT&T Field on Saturday night as they take on the Lookouts at 6:15 central time. Right-hander Wes Roemer (6-4) will start for the BayBears against fellow righty Will Savage (9-3). The BayBears are back home on Wednesday, July 20 to open a five-game set with the Birmingham Barons at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, please call (251) 479-BEAR or visit www.mobilebaybears.com.
