November 19, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
ERIE, PAÃÂ - Shareef Abdur-Rahim, president of the NBA G League, will be in attendance for the BayHawks' annual "Salute Our Troops" game this Saturday, Nov. 23, as Erie takes on the Raptors 905. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Erie Insurance Arena.
During pre-game on Saturday, ten local active duty or retired service men and women will earn special recognition for their military service by taking center-court when introduced during the time slot typically reserved for the BayHawks starting lineup. The special honorees will be the night's featured "lineup" with a BayHawks player accompanying each of them. Additionally, Abdur-Rahim will greet them as they are introduced and they will each receive a personalized commemorative jersey. The ten honorees were selected at random through a recent online contest.
The BayHawks "Season of Giving" will also be enacted for both Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday games this weekend. Fans can support active service members by bringing military care package items to either game and, in return, will receive one free Main Level ticket for that night's contest, courtesy of LECOM Health. Some acceptable items include baby wipes, gum, lip balm, soap and sunflower seeds. For a full list of items that will be accepted, visit ErieBayHawks.com.
Abdur-Rahim was named president of the NBA G League on Dec. 11, 2018. Prior to his time serving as president, Abdur-Rahim spent time as the associate vice president of basketball operations for the NBA and was the general manager for the Reno Bighorns, former Sacramento Kings G League affiliate, for the 2013-14 season. He also had a very successful NBA career, spanning 12 seasons. The third overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft posted career averages of 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 34.8 minutes, earning an All-Star selection during the 2001-02 season.
