Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

The Kansas City Royals have announced that Naturals left-hander Paul Mildren will be transferred Tuesday morning to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Royals' Advanced-A Carolina League affiliate.

Mildren began the 2008 season with Northwest Arkansas before joining Triple-A Omaha for three weeks in late April. In 13 appearances with the Naturals, including three starts, the 24-year old resident of Adelaide, Australia posted a 2-5 record and a 7.36 ERA over 29 1/3 innings. He will log more innings in Wilmington as the Royals plan to work him from the Blue Rocks rotation.

Taking Mildren's spot on the Naturals roster will be left-hander Gilbert de la Vara. The 23-year old Tucson, AZ resident posted a 3-3 record and a 3.65 ERA in 24 appearances with the Blue Rocks (one start). This season, de la Vara has pitched 44 1/3 innings, fanning 31 batters while walking 12. This will be his second season logging Texas League experience, as he pitched in 19 games last season in Double-A for Wichita, posting a 3-2 record with a 5.74 ERA in 19 appearances.

The Naturals have not announced the uniform number for de la Vara, who will join the Naturals in time to board Wednesday evening's bus to San Antonio. The Naturals roster continues to stand at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale.
