North Little Rock, AR - NW Arkansas took the opener of a three game series from the Arkansas Travelers, 3-1, in front of 8,049 on Saturday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Travs have been held to only seven runs through the first five games of this homestand. Naturals' starter Jace Vines earned the win by working five innings. Cristian Castillo did the bulk of the work out of the bullpen with 2.2 scoreless innings before Andres Machado pitched a scoreless ninth, stranding the tying runs to pick up the save. Arkansas had their chances but was just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position, did not take advantage of three Naturals errors and left eight men on base.

Moments That Mattered

* Samir Duenez rolled a two-out single through a shift on the right side of the infield to score a pair in the top of the third.

* In the bottom of the inning, Donnie Walton was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on Chuck Taylor's base hit to left field.

* Dario Pizzano singled and Kyle Lewis walked to open the ninth inning but Machado struck out the next two hitters before inducing a groundout to end the game.

Up Next

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at 2:10 with right-hander Williams Perez (6-1, 2.32) on the mound against lefty Emilio Ogando (11-6, 4.66). Kids will get to run the bases afterwards. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
