Naturals Fall in Opener at Midland, 3-2

MIDLAND, Texas. - The final leg of the six-game road trip got off to tough start for the Naturals as the Midland RockHounds defeated Northwest Arkansas by a final of 3-2 on Sunday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

Northwest Arkansas (44-36/4-6) led for most of the game gaining a fourth inning, 1-0 lead after Alex Liddi doubled home Bubba Starling to give the Naturals the lead off starter Tim Atherton.

The RockHounds tied the game in their half the fourth frame off Luke Farrell; but Starling came through in the fifth inning with his second hit of the night. The 6-foot-5 outfielder drilled an run-scoring double down the left field foul line to score Terrance Gore from second taking the advantage back, 2-1.

Farrell finished his 5.0 innings of work allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts before handing the ball over to Mark Peterson (3-1, 3.66). The RockHounds scored the tying run in the seventh frame off Peterson using an RBI single by Jaycob Brugman and then the go-ahead run in the eight with Matt Angle delivering the RBI.

Peterson worked the final 3.0 innings and struck out a pair while scattering five hits allowing the two runs.

Game two of the series takes place on Monday, July 6 as left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (4-4, 3.73) takes the hill for the Naturals looking to even the set from Security Bank Ballpark.
