Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (July 5, 2015) - Home runs from Patrick Cantwell and Ryan Cordell in the sixth inning lifted the Riders to a 6-1 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Cantwell went 2-for-3 with three RBI to power Frisco's offense.
The contest was dominated by pitching, as neither team crossed the plate over the first five frames. In the top of the sixth, Brian Hernandez drew a two-out walk against Jose Leclerc. Cody Ege then entered the game and gave up back-to-back singles to score Hernandez and make it 1-0 Travelers (4-6, 40-39). Leclerc pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit with six strikeouts.
Down 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, Frisco put leadoff man Drew Robinson aboard with a walk. Cantwell then drove a shot over the left field wall to give Frisco (5-5, 34-46) a 2-1 lead. Cordell extended the advantage later in the frame with a solo shot for his first Double-A home run.
The Riders continued their offensive assault against reliever Austin Wood. With two on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Cantwell sent a single up the middle to score Preston Beck. The Dallas native added insurance in the eighth with a two-run triple to give Frisco a 6-1 lead.
Ege (2-2) earned his second win, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Leclerc. Albert Suarez (7-7) dropped his seventh decision of the season; he allowed three runs on four hits in six innings.
The RoughRiders return to action on Monday at Dr Pepper Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. start in game two against the Travelers. LHP Frank Lopez will oppose LHP Mike Antonini in the contest. It will be another Big Money Monday where a fan will be selected as the RoughRiders' "Big Money" contestant with a chance to win a huge jackpot based on either a game situation or a game of chance.
