WOODBRIDGE, Va. - The Potomac Nationals announced today that Washington Nationals 2009 third-round pick Trevor Holder will be promoted from the Low-A Hagerstown Suns to the Potomac Nationals and will join the team on Thursday before game one of their series with the Winston-Salem Dash from Pfitzner Stadium.

Holder will be the probable starter for Friday's duel with the Dash.

Holder was drafted in the third round with the 81st overall pick back in June after finishing up his senior collegiate season with the University of Georgia Bulldogs. With the Bulldogs, Holder went 7-5 with a 4.48 earned run average and struck out 72 in 92 1/3 innings. In 2008, Holder starred for UGA on the team that went all the way to the finals of the College World Series, only to be upset by a Cinderella squad, the Fresno State Bulldogs.

After the draft, Holder signed a contract and reported to the Short Season Vermont Lake Monsters where the righty made two starts, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched while striking out three. He then jumped up a level and joined the Suns roster in mid-July. After an initial tough outing, Holder bounced back, twirling back-to-back gems, allowing just one earned run in 10 innings while striking out nine and walking just two. The Alabama product picked up wins in his last two starts for the Hagerstown ballclub.

Overall with the Suns, Holder compiled a 2-0 record with a 3.55 ERA and a 12/3 K/BB ratio.

Adored by Washington's brass for his gritty disposition on the mound, Holder will join a Potomac rotation that currently includes lefties Will Atwood and Tom Milone as well as right-handers Adam Carr, Hassan Pena, and Brad Peacock, who made a sparkling Carolina League debut on Wednesday night in which he struck out a season-high nine Myrtle Beach Pelican batters.

With the recent disabled list additions of pitcher Terrence Engles and third baseman Stephen King, the P-Nats had an extra spot on their roster, which Holder will now be occupying.
