Potomac Nationals News Release

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Trevor Holder was outstanding over seven innings, the Nationals got just enough offense and Potomac beat the Salem Red Sox 2-0 on Saturday night in Woodbridge for their third straight home win. The victory marked just the first time in 2011 the Nationals have won three consecutive ballgames at their home park and secured a series victory for the P-Nats.

Holder (3-7) and a pair of Nationals bullpen arms limited Salem to just six hits and turned three timely double plays to keep the Sox at bay.

In the third, a leadoff single was when Jose Lozada started a beautiful 5-4-3 double play. The Nationals (25-37) had another twin-killer in the fourth, though it was far less conventional. Wilfred Pichardo led off the frame with a single to right before Peter Hissey hit a well-placed bunt on the third base side. Holder's throw was dropped by Bloxom and Pichardo broke for third. Bloxom fired a bullet to third where Pichardo was tagged out; then Lozada threw back to first, where Hissey was caught off the bag and the Nats had a pair of outs.

By the next time they turned two, Potomac had a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, Destin Hood blooped a two-out single to right off Pete Ruiz (Salem starter Junichi Tazawa held Potomac to just two hits in four innings). Bloxom then hit a ball to second; Hood blocked the sight-line of Salem second baseman Zach Gentile and the ball deflected off his glove and rolled out to right field. Destin Hood burned around the basepaths and scored the game's first run.

They doubled the lead in the seventh. J.R. Higley singled to lead off the frame. He moved to second on a Sandy Leon groundout and to third on a passed ball. Justino Cuevas then roped a line drive to center field for a sacrifice fly that made it 2-0 Potomac.

In the right, Joe Testa retired Zach Gentile, walked David Mailman and was walked from the game. Hector Nelo then got Michael Almanzar to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Nelo then pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
