
Frederick Allows Just Four Hits but Commit Four Errors in 3-2 Loss to Lynchburg

The Hillcats held on to defeat the Keys, 3-2, on a night that Lynchburg had only four hits, Frederick committed four errors, and the Hillcats hitting coach Bobby Moore as well as Keys manager Orlando Gomez were ejected from the game. In the losing effort, LHP Will Startup and RHP Justin Moore combined to throw 4.1 innings of perfect relief. Frederick dropped to 38-24 on the season as their magic number to clinch the first half Northern Division title remains at five.
Lynchburg tallied a run off RHP Bobby Bundy in the first inning on Saturday night when RF Adam Milligan brought home CF Todd Cunningham on a groundout to second base. Following the Cunningham run, Bundy did not surrender a run until the fifth.
In the top of the fourth, Hillcats hitting coach Bobby Moore was tossed from the game following an inning ending groundout off the bat of DH Geraldo Rodriguez. In the at bat, Rodriguez weakly grounded a ball to third base but hopped out the of the batter's box. Coaching third base, Moore sprinted down the third-base line and vehemently argued the call with home plate umpire Thomas Newsome as was quickly ejected from the game.
The score remained 1-0 entering the top of the fifth in Frederick. With C Shawn McGill on first, LF Keenan Wiley singled to left field. Running on the pitch, McGill rounded second base and ran into Keys SS Jonathan Schoop. Schoop was call for interference as McGill was awarded third base. Following the call, Orlando Gomez ran onto the field to argue the call with field ump Rich Gonzalez. After a minute of disagreement, Gonzalez tossed Gomez from the game.
Following the Gomez ejection, Bundy walked Todd Cunningham to load the bases. With the bases loaded and no outs, madness ensued at Harry Grove Stadium. SS Andrelton Simmons grounded to second base. 2B Garabez Rosa flipped to second but Schoop dropped it. Schoop quickly fired home as Wiley was caught in a run down. C Brian Ward threw to 3B Dale Mollenhauer as he applied the tag for out one. After the out, Mollenhauer turned a pegged a ball to 1B Joe Mahoney. Mahoney then threw to Schoop who tagged out Simmons for the second out. Schoop then tried to throw Cunningham on his way to third. The Schoop throw bounced into the seats and Cunningham scored.
In all, Schoop committed three errors in the fifth inning and two runs came home to score.
Trailing by three, the Keys got on the board with a RBI double off the bat of Joe Mahoney. Frederick scored another run in the eighth inning when Ryan Buchter walked pinch hitter Bobby Stevens with the bases loaded. The Keys left the bases loaded in the inning after Buchter struck out RF Tyler Kolodny.
The Keys came up empty in the ninth inning as Lynchburg prevailed with the 3-2 win. Bobby Bundy fell to 6-4 on the year after he allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits over 4.2 innings of work.
Frederick and Lynchburg will play the rubbermatch of the three-game series on Sunday evening at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys will turn to LHP Nathan Moreau (6-3, 3.54) while the Hillcats will send RHP Zeke Spruill (4-6, 4.14) to the hill. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
