Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans' magic number to clinch the first-half Southern Division title is at seven.

- RHP Wilfredo Boscan (0-2, 4.41) at LHP Drew Pomeranz (2-1, 1.85) -

OFFENSIVE DEFENSE: Friday night's series opener between the Pelicans and Indians was one of the sloppiest defensive games the Birds have participated in this season. Myrtle Beach was charged with a season-high four errors while the Indians matched a Pelicans opponents' season high with three of their own.

CASE OF THE RUNS: The Pelicans entered the eighth inning Friday night with a 3-1 lead and a 29-2 record in games in which they lead after seven innings including a 15-0 such mark on the road. Kinston's three-run eighth handed the Birds a rare defeat in which they led late. The K-Tribe also handed the Pelicans their 12th one-run loss on the year. Myrtle Beach is 9-3 in one-run affairs at home and the exact inverse on the road following Friday.

PIP, PIP CHIRINO! (PART II): The unexpected power surge of Pelicans' second baseman Santiago Chirino continued Friday with his third-inning homer. Chirino had played in 148 professional games in his career prior to his May 29 homer against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at BB&T Coastal Field. He now has three in the last two weeks.
