Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that RHP Terry Doyle and RHP Addison Reed have been promoted to AA Birmingham. In a corresponding roster move, RHP Brandon Kloess will rejoin the Dash from AAA Charlotte.
Doyle will join the Barons for the second time this season. He made a spot start in Birmingham on May 21 and got the loss after six innings where he gave up four runs on ten hits and struck out four. Since returning to Winston-Salem from that outing, Doyle gave up only three runs (two earned) in 24 innings over three starts and picked up his first win of the season. That stretch included an outing where Doyle threw a career-high nine innings, but didn't get the win after the game was decided in extra innings. Overall with Winston-Salem this year, Doyle is 1-5 with a 2.84 ERA in 11 starts. He's thrown one complete game and walked 11 batters while striking out 49. Eight of his 11 starts were quality.
Out of the bullpen, Reed was 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and one save in 28.1 innings for the Dash. Last year's third round draft pick by the White Sox, Reed was ranked by Baseball America as the 13th best prospect in the organization. He started the season with low-A Kannapolis and quickly ascended to Advanced-A. Among relief pitchers in the Carolina League, he ranks fifth in opposing batting average (.196), second in strikeouts per nine innings (12.39), first in fewest walks per nine innings (1.27), and fourth in fewest baserunners per nine innings (8.58). Reed hasn't given up a run in 14 straight innings over seven appearances dating back to May 21.
Kloess comes back to Winston-Salem after spending the first half of June with AAA Charlotte. In four appearances and 6.1 innings, Kloess allowed no runs and only two hits with the Knights. He went 1-0 and struck out eight batters. Kloess was sent up on May 31 after registering a 1-2 record with a 4.07 ERA in 14 appearances with the Dash. In 24.1 innings, he earned four saves and walked 11 batters while striking out 27.
The Dash roster now consists of 24 players, one below the Carolina League limit.
