Kinston Indians News Release
First Place Pelicans Come to Town - Kinston finally got to Myrtle Beach starter Robbie Ross in the seventh inning with a run before adding three in the eighth to take a 4-3 win. Kinston's victory moves the team to within three games of first place, currently occupied by the Pelicans. Bo Greenwell knocked a two out hit in the sixth inning to break up Ross's no-hit bid.
Comeback K-Tribe - The Indians have posted a 17-6 record over their last 23 contests, going from 8 ½ to 3 games back of first place Myrtle Beach. Kinston has not lost back-to-back games since May 15th and 16th. The K-Tribe is 10-0 in one-run games over this winning stretch. After starting the season 2-6 in one run contest, Kinston now boasts the league's best mark with an 12-6 record in games decided by one run.
Hey Now, You're An...Ya You Know the Rest - Four Kinston Indians were named to the Carolina League All-Star Team Wednesday as Drew Pomeranz, Preston Guilmet, Justin Toole and Giovanni Soto were all voted onto the squad. Kinston Manager Aaron Holbert is also selected as a coach on the Carolina League All-Star Staff. The Carolina League All-Stars will take on the California League All-Stars on June 21st in Modesto, California (Soto will not make the trip to California because he is scheduled to pitch on the final day of the first half and will be unavailable).
The Hits Keep Coming - Kinston has reached the double digit hit mark in four of their last six and five of their last eight games. In those last eight games Kinston has banged out 93 hits (11.6 hits per game). Over the last eight games, Kinston has scored 46 runs (5.75 per game).
Running Away - Coming into their May 25th contest against Potomac, Kinston had not scored more than seven runs in a game this season. Counting their season high 13 run outburst against Potomac that day, Kinston has now scored eight or more runs seven times over the last 15 games.
Bombs Away - Kinston hit a season high four home runs as they took game two from the Dash, 8-1, last Saturday night. The four home runs on Saturday night in Winston-Salem was the most hit by a K-Tribe team in a game since last year's squad hit six in a 15-2 victory April 25th against Myrtle Beach at Historic Grainger Stadium. In that blowout, Kinston hit three runs in the seventh inning.
More Homer Talk - As a team Kinston hit just 12 home runs in their first 40 games of the season. In their last 16 games (Since May 21st) Kinston has crushed 16 home runs. Casey Frawley has led the way with five home runs in the two week span, followed by Adam Abraham with three bombs. Abraham and Frawley are tied for the team lead in home runs with seven. Kinston now has six multi-homer games on the season.
Extra, Extra - Kinston unloaded nine extra base hits (2 triples, 7 doubles) in a 16 hit outburst Monday night at Wilmington. It was the most extra base hits and doubles the K-Tribe has mustered in a single game since May 31st, 2007 at Potomac. In that 9-5 win, Kinston had nine extra base hits and eight doubles. The two triples were a season high for Kinston. Chase Burnette's four hit night made him the third K-Tribe player to rack up four hits in a game this season (Perez and Toole).
