Nashville Soccer Club Visits the New England Revolution this Saturday Riding Its Best Start in Its MLS History
March 16, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville SC will visit the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. in the club's second road match of the season on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The match will be available on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. Unlike in previous weeks when Nashville SC matches were available without subscribing, season ticket members will need to redeem the codes they received with their accounts while fans will have to subscribe to the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV App in order to follow the action.
Earlier today Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and former Revolution forward Teal Bunbury addressed the media to preview the match. Smith spoke about the skill New England players have and the challenge they present as well as facing former Nashville SC defender Dave Romney. Bunbury spoke about his excitement to return to Gillette Stadium for the first time and the fond memories he has of New England both on and off the pitch.
Bunbury returns to New England for the first time since being traded to Nashville in Dec. 2021 - the teams did not meet in 2022 due to Nashville SC being in the Western Conference. Bunbury made 231 appearances for the Revs with 45 goals from 2014-21 and was named the Revolution's Humanitarian of the Year in 2020 and 2021 for his leadership in organizing community events.
Nashville SC is off to its best start to an MLS season through its first three matches (2W-1D, 7 pts.), and are tied atop the Eastern Conference along with Atlanta United FC and FC Cincinnati. Last weekend Nashville SC earned their second home victory with goals from Jacob Shaffelburg and Taylor Washington.
Goalkeeper Joe Willis is on MLS history watch this weekend, as he became just the seventh goalkeeper in MLS history to record three consecutive shutouts to begin a season. Willis would become the first goalkeeper in MLS history to record four consecutive clean sheets and play every minute to start a season with a shutout.
Reigning MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar made his first start of the season last week after building fitness and recovering from a lower body injury. Mukhtar earned the game-winning assist against CF Montréal which tied him for second in MLS in assists. The German attacker is responsible for over half of Nashville SC's goals in its MLS history (72 of 134).
Nashville SC Dax McCarty has an opportunity to become second all-time in MLS history for starts by an outfield player passing Jeff Larentowicz with whom he is tied at 397 starts.
Following the match, the club will conduct its post-match media availability via Zoom. Footage will be distributed upon conclusion.
