Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Soccer Club will move onto the Round of 32 in its Leagues Cup 2023 run facing off against FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. CT.
Nashville SC finished second in Central 4 group to advance to the knockout rounds. Nashville SC went 1W-1L-0D, 0 SOW in group stage play with a 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids and a 4-3 loss to Toluca.
Nashville SC put on an offense-driven show through its group stage play with five goals scored across two matches. Hany Mukhtar and Jacob Shaffelburg put up goals in the first group stage match against Colorado, followed by Walker Zimmerman, Fafà Picault and Luke Haakenson who scored in the thrilling back and forth group stage match against Toluca.
Two of Nashville's five Leagues Cup 2023 goals have come from impact subs, with Mukhtar scoring two minutes after entering group stage match one, and Haakenson scoring just eight minutes after entering group stage match two.
Nashville SC will look to expand on this three-match scoring streak as it travels to TQL Stadium on Friday with the potential addition of Sam Surridge to its attack, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. The former English Premier League striker signed with the club during this summer transfer window as the third Designated Player. In his time at Nottingham Forest, his latest club, Surridge scored seven goals in the back half of his debut season to play a pivotal role in Forest gaining promotion to the English Premier League for the 2023 season for the first time in 23 years.
Nashville SC's MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Huntsville City FC (7W-8L-4D, 3SOW, 28 pts.) is also looking to bring a high-flying offense to a matchup with a Cincinnati side this weekend. Huntsville City FC scored 12 goals across five matches in July, with seven of those goals coming at Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville City FC will take on FC Cincinnati 2 at the Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 6.
