Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have acquired Brazilian winger Antony in a full transfer from Portuguese side FC Arouca, the club announced today. Under contract through 2026 with a club option in 2027, Antony will occupy an international and a U22 Initiative Slot, pending a physical and a receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 visa.
"We are delighted to announce the addition of a talented young attacking player in Antony. We feel his attributes will give our team a different component going forward," said Ned Grabavoy, Timbers General Manager. "Antony is a player with potential and room for growth, and we are optimistic that he can make a positive impact with our club."
Antony, 21, joins the Timbers after spending three seasons (2021-2023) at FC Arouca playing in Portugal's' top-tier league Liga Portugal, where he registered eight goals and three assists in 66 appearances across all competitions. With FC Arouca, the Brazilian attacker featured in the Allianz Cup logging an assist in six appearances, and Taça de Portugal recording an assist in three appearances. This season, Antony has tallied six goals and an assist in 33 appearances for FC Arouca.
"As a team, we always want to grow. The addition of Antony will give us the possibility to have a player with different attributes," said Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese. "We believe that young players can grow within our team as well as make us stronger. He will make our attacking squad even more competitive with his speed, strength and verticality on the field."
The Brazilian native began his professional career in 2021 with Brazilian side Joinville Esporte Clube before being loaned out to top-tier side Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. Antony made his debut at the age of 18 against Palmeiras in a 2-2 draw on March 3, 2021. Antony logged three appearances in all competitions with Corinthians before being loaned out to FC Arouca in 2021.
Transaction: Portland Timbers acquire winger Antony through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027. Antony will occupy an international and a U22 Initiative Slot, pending a physical and receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 visa.
