Nashville SC News Release

CHICAGO - Nashville SC will start its #SummerOfSoccer with a bang as it will host the Colorado Rapids in the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup on June 5 or 6 at Vanderbilt Football Stadium. The matchup and home site were the result of a draw held by U.S. Soccer on Thursday morning.

While there is no shortage of storylines in this matchup, the biggest is that Nashville SC head coach Gary Smith won the MLS Cup as head coach of the Colorado Rapids in 2010, alongside Nashville keeper Matt Pickens and defender Kosuke Kimura.

Tickets to the match will go on sale on Tuesday May 29 at Noon CT. More information on tickets will be released when it is available.

A surprise foursome found Nashville SC with three MLS Western Conference teams as potential 4th round opponents in the U.S. Open Cup this morning. When the groups of four were revealed, Nashville was placed with Colorado Rapids, Sporting KC and Real Salt Lake, rather than more regionally based MLS teams.

It'll be the first time Nashville SC has played a non-friendly against an MLS club. In the preseason prior to the start of 2018, Nashville SC lost to Atlanta United 3-1 before drawing Chicago Fire 0-0 and beating Orlando City SC 3-1. The Open Cup game will be sandwiched between two USL games for Nashville with a home game on June 2 against Penn FC and a road tilt on June 9 against Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Nashville SC advanced to the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup thanks to two home wins in rounds two and three. After being automatically placed in the 2nd with all other eligible USL teams, Nashville SC beat Inter Nashville FC in a Nashville derby, 2-0. Then Wednesday night, Nashville SC punched its ticket to face a MLS team with a 3-1 win over Mississippi Brilla FC. All MLS teams including the Colorado Rapids automatically qualify for the 4th round of the prestigious national tournament.
