Energy FC Sign MLS Veteran Kalif Alhassan

OKLAHOMA CITY - Energy FC signed midfielder Kalif Alhassan to a contract, Head Coach Steve Cooke announced today. The contract is subject to league and federation approval.

Alhassan played most recently with Dila Gori of the Erovnuli Liga in European country of Georgia and with the New York Cosmos of the NASL. He's appeared in 139 matches as a professional with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Minnesota United and Portland Timbers. He played 93 matches with Portland, scored five goals, 12 assists and played 5,078 minutes. He is one of three players in MLS history to record an assist in each of his first three home matches.

He's been a member of Ghana's National Team system since 2007 and played with both the U-17 and U-20 National Teams. He began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in Ghana's GLO Premier League.

"Anytime you get to add a player with the experience and technical quality of Alhassa, it's a good thing for the club," said Cooke. "Kalif has played at a very high level, he's been successful at a very high level. He's been with a number of high-profile organizations and done really well with those clubs. I think with his ability on the ball and his ability to find a final pass and create opportunities for other people, I have no doubt he's going to be a fantastic addition to the group."

Energy FC's next match is May 26 against Tulsa Roughencks FC in the second round of the Black Gold Derby. A win for Energy FC means they retain The Wrench, the trophy awarded to the winner of the yearly competition between the clubs.. The next home match is June 2 at at 7 p.m.
