Fresno FC News Release

MESA, Ariz. - It took extra time, again, but the Foxes survived to play another day in the US Open Cup, beating Sporting AZ FC 2-1 in Wednesday's third-round match at John Riggs Stadium.

In the 99th minute, Juan Pablo Caffa found Renato Bustamante inside the six-yard box, who headed in the go-ahead goal to send the Foxes into the fourth round.

The Foxes will find out their MLS opponent at 8 a.m. PT Thursday, May 24, in the US Open Cup's fourth-round draw. The draw will be streamed live on the US Open Cup's Facebook page and at USSoccer.com.

Sporting AZ FC struck first, taking the lead in the 66th minute on Ryan Flood's banger from 20 yards out. But just nine minutes later, the Foxes equalized with a screamer of their own, when Danny Barrera fired in a rocket from a distance of 30 yards and into the upper-right corner.

It was the first of two assists for Caffa, who entered the match as a substitute just one minute earlier for midfielder Jose Cuevas. It was Caffa's first appearance for the Foxes since April 28th, when he suffered a right sprained ankle in a 1-1 draw at Phoenix Rising FC.

Bustamante scored his second goal in as many games, providing the seal in Fresno FC's 2-0 extra-time win against Orange County FC in last week's second round.
