Names of Fans Affected by Cancer Woven into Jerseys

January 18, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, Idaho, January 18, 2013 - For the second straight year, the Idaho Stampede will proudly wear pink, but this year, they'll play with more than just their name on the back.

The Idaho Stampede have announced a partnership with St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) and Boise's own AuctionFrogs.org to help raise money for the mammography assistance fund, called "The 2nd Annual Real Men Wear Pink Night." The State of Idaho ranks last in the U.S. in mammogram screening - with this auction, all money raised will be donated to St. Luke's to provide mammography assistance to those who cannot afford it otherwise, saving the lives of countless women, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.

The team will wear special jerseys on Feb. 1 and 2 that feature names on the backs of friends and family of Stampede fans to raise awareness of people affected by cancer in our community.

"By personalizing each jersey with the names of loved ones, we hope to emphasize the importance of mammograms and early detection in fighting cancer," Stampede President and General Manager Steve Brandes said. "Our fans helped make this venture extremely successful last year. We hope to increase the exposure and support for the future."

The Stampede will auction off the jerseys in an online auction hosted by AuctionFrogs.org, which includes additional items from the Stampede such as merchandise and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, along with items from team sponsors and other local businesses. The team will wear the jerseys on Feb. 1 and 2 home games against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Fans can bid on the jerseys while at CenturyLink Arena during the games by finding the auction kiosk, but the auction will finish online Feb. 2 at 11 p.m.
