Vipers Top Bighorns 106-85 - Earn Top Spot in the Central Division

HIDALGO, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers topped the Reno Bighorns 106-85 tonight in the second game of a back-to-back matchup are State Farm Arena. The Vipers improve to a 6-1 January record move into the top spot in the Central Division.
The Vipers were led by Houston Rockets assignment Terrence Jones with 27 points, 9 rebounds. Andrew Goudelock followed with 20 points, 8 assists. Vernon Macklin added 18 points, and Terrel Harris chipped in 15 points. Chris Johnson finished with 14 points.
Samardo Samuels led the Bighorns with 24 points, followed by Marcus Landry with 20 points. Antoine Wright and Jerome Jordan each recorded 11 points.
The Bighorns held onto the lead throughout most of the first quarter. At the 10:38 mark in the second quarter, Reno took their largest lead 35-28 following two shots at the line by Dontell Jefferson. A jump shot from Jones with 7:15 on the clock gave the Vipers a 38-37 lead and RGV was able to break away. With 2:19 remaining in the first half, a dunk from Macklin put the Vipers up 51-41, and a layup from Toure Murry sent the Vipers into the break with a 53-41 advantage.
Reno came back fighting after the half and closed their deficit to 63-61 with a jump shot from Walker Russell with 4:35 on the clock. RGV was able to stay in control and ended the third quarter ahead 77-71.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Reno caught up within two points of the Vipers, 83-81 on a free throw from Jordan. A jump shot from Goudelock, followed by three pointers from Johnson and Harris put the Vipers back in control 94-83. RGV built their lead to 21 points, claiming the game 106-85.
The Vipers will be back in action at home Monday, Jan. 21 when they host the Legends in a 7 p.m. game at State Farm Arena. Vipers fans can listen to the game live on Fox Sports 1700 and can watch the game live on the NBA Development League Network on YouTube.
