WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Nailers, the 'AA' affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have announced the signing of forward Billy Ryan. The signing was announced Tuesday by head coach Greg Puhalski.

Ryan, 23, was a 2004 third round NHL Entry Draft selection of the New York Rangers. He was the 80th pick overall in the NHL's 2004 draft. The left-hander played collegiately at the University of Maine, where he played in 135 games with the Black Bears and scored 35 goals with 57 assists. Ryan saw ice time in 15 games with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms this season.

In addition to the signing of Ryan, the Nailers placed forward Matt Grennier on the 3-day I-R list and defenseman Elgin Reed on the 30-day I-R list on Tuesday.

The Nailers have a three-game road trip this weekend. They return to home ice on Feb. 27-28 when they host Dayton and Trenton, respectively. The Feb. 27 game is Friday Family Four Pack Night, where families receive four tickets, four sodas, four hotdogs and one large popcorn for just $44. In addition, a collector poster will be given away to the first 2,500 fans in attendance. A Coal Miner Spike bobble head will be given away to the first 2,500 fans in attendance at the Feb. 28 game.
