Johnson's Two Help Stingrays Down Bombers 4-1

Dayton, OH - Keith Johnson scored his third short handed goal in as many games, as the South Carolina Stingrays beat the Dayton Bombers 4-1 at the Nutter Center.

"I didn't like the way we came out of the gates," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But after that, we competed as hard as we have all year."

The Dayton Bombers took the early lead in the game on a power play goal by their captain Greg Labenski, his 12th goal of the season, giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead. The lead would be short lived, as Keith Johnson got his third short handed goal in as many games, this time against David Shantz, to make it 1-1. The goal came at 8:14 and was assisted by Travis Morin and Viktor Dovgan. The Rays would take their first lead of the night on Michael Dubuc's team leading 31st goal of the year. The power play goal came at 16:37 and was assisted by Morin and Mike Curry. With just :10 seconds to go in the period, the Rays struck once more. This time it was Pierre-Luc O'Brien getting his 12th goal of the year, off a one-timer from Jeff Corey. Corey and Trent Campbell got the assists on the goal, making it 3-1 after one period of play.

The play went back and forth in the second period, but neither team was able to take of advantage as the period was dominated by the goaltenders. The Rays out shot the Bombers in the period 11-10, but could not put anything behind Shantz in the period. In the period, the Rays went 0-3 on the power play, but did kill off the only Bomber's power play.

The Rays struck again in the third period, getting their second power play goal of the night. Keith Johnson got his second goal of the night, assisted by Travis Morin at 4:19. The goal made the score 4-1, the eventual final on the night. Spencer Carbery and Britt Dougherty dropped the gloves before the end of the period, but no other goals would be scored.

The winning goaltender was Jonathan Boutin who stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Shantz who stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced. The Rays went 2-8 on the power play, while killing off six of the seven short handed situations they faced.
