Goaltender Turple Assigned to Gwinnett

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that goaltender Dan Turple has been reassigned to the Gladiators by the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.

Turple joins the Gladiators after spending parts of the previous two seasons with Gwinnett. He appeared in 34 games with Gwinnett in his rookie campaign during the 2006-07 season. He notched a 3.77 goals against average and a .879 save percentage while recording a 18-13-3 record.

The Kingston, ontario native was 15-12-3 last year with Gwinnett in 30 games. He notched a 3.16 goals against average and a .905 save percentage with the Gladiators. Turple also appeared in one game with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League last year where he colleced 6 saves in a relief effort with the Griffins.

Turple went 5-8-0 in 13 games this year with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League collecting a 2.94 goals against average. He was assigned to the Utah Grizzlies on January 30th where he has appeared in two games posting a 0-0-2 record and recording a .909 save percentage.

Turple should be available for the Gladiators for Wednesday's 8:05 p.m. tilt in Mississippi against the Sea Wolves.

Gwinnett returns to action on Wednesday, February 18th as they travel to Mississippi to take on the Sea Wolves at 8:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 21 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
