Nailers Franchise to Change Ownership

Wheeling Nailers News Release


WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League today announce that the franchise has been purchased by Nailers Hockey, LLC. The Presidents of Nailers Hockey, LLC are Rob and Jim Brooks.

Rob and Jim are natives of the Pittsburgh area and are shareholders in Suebro, Inc. Suebro, Inc. is very active in the sports arena, holding voting interests in the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins and Altoona Curve minor league baseball team.

"We are avid hockey fans that have been around and participated in professional sports for several years." stated Rob Brooks. "We are also adamant about keeping the Nailers in Wheeling. This is Wheeling's team and will remain in Wheeling. We will also be an ownership that will be actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the Nailers which includes hiring a new head coach and extending the lease agreement with the Wheeling Civic Center and the affiliation with the Pittsburgh Penguins."

"Six years ago Wheeling Pro Hockey, LLC and Slapshot bought the Nailers and kept the team in Wheeling." said Michael Baker, Nailers Governor. "We had a good run in our tenure but it was time for a change. The owners for the past several years are excited that the team will remain in Wheeling and will continue to support the team. We would like to thank the limited investors in the organization who played a tremendous role in buying the team in 1997, all the fans and corporate sponsors that worked with the Nailers in the past and we wish them all success in the future."

"The City of Wheeling would like to thank Wheeling Pro Hockey for all the work they put into the Nailers organization the past six years," stated Wheeling Mayor Nick Sparachane. "And the City of Wheeling will support the current ownership group in their efforts to keep the Nailers a vital part of our community."
