Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. The Nailers have added forward Jarrett Burton to their playoff roster, after he was released from his professional tryout with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Wheeling has now filled 22 of its 23 available roster spots for the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Burton, 25, was the leading scorer for the Nailers prior to his departure for the AHL, as he racked up 15 goals, 23 assists, and 38 points. Despite playing in 44 of the team's 72 regular season contest, Jarrett finished fourth on squad in scoring. The younger of the two Burton brothers got off to a strong start to his sophomore campaign with Wheeling, as he netted four goals in the first three games, before adding four more in the first five tilts of November. Jarrett had his best month in the ECHL during November, when he posted 13 points in 13 games. The Echo Bay, Ontario native has compiled 66 points in 96 career regular season games with the Nailers and three points in seven postseason contests.

Jarrett made his AHL debut on February 6th for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a home game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He then scored his first goal with the AHL Penguins on March 9th in a thrilling 6-5 comeback win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Fellow Nailer connections Carter Rowney and Jean-Sebastien Dea also lit the lamp that evening, while Franky Palazzese made his AHL debut, picking up the victory in relief. Burton's second goal turned out to be the game winner in a 4-3 triumph over the Hershey Bears on April 9th.

Jarrett Burton will join the Nailers in Estero, Florida, where they will play game six of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Series against the Everblades on Monday at 7:30. Wheeling leads the best-of-seven set, 3-2.
