Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
The Cincinnati Cyclones fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets on Monday night, 2-1 in overtime, in Game 6 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Forward Andrew Yogan scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, who are tied with the Komets, 3-3, in the best-of-seven series.
After a scoreless first period that saw Cyclones netminder Brad Thiessen turn aside all 14 shots he faced, the Komets drew first blood while on the power play as forward Alex Belzile lit the lamp to put Ft. Wayne ahead, 1-0, 1:02 into the second.
That 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the frame, and in the third the Cyclones battled back to tie the game 9:55 in, when a shot from defenseman Brett Wysopal bounced off of Komets goaltender Pat Nagle right to Yogan, and he stuffed in the rebound to pull Cincinnati even with the Komets, 1-1.
The Cyclones got a plethora of quality offensive chances throughout the remainder of the period, however Cincinnati could not find the back of the net, and the two sides headed to overtime for a third straight game.
Unlike Games 4 and 5, only 5:30 of extra time was needed, as forward Garrett Thompson netted Ft. Wayne's second power play marker of the game, this time on a 5-on-3 advantage, sending the Komets to a 2-1 overtime win.
Cincinnati was outshot, 41-24 on the night, while the power play was held scoreless on all nine chances. A decisive Game 7 is set for Wednesday night in Ft. Wayne. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
