Mystics To Play First Round Of Playoffs At Comcast Center

Washington Mystics News Release

Washington, D.C. - Washington Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb announced today that in the event that the Mystics participated in the 2009 WNBA Playoffs, any Mystics first round home games would be played at the Comcast Center on the campus of the University of Maryland. The move to Comcast Center is necessary due to a scheduling conflict at Verizon Center. The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for September 16-21. Dates, times as well as an on-sale date for tickets will be announced once the Mystics secure a playoff berth.

"While it is unfortunate we will not be able to play a first round game at our home arena, Verizon Center, we are fortunate to have a terrific facility located in close proximity in the Comcast Center, " Bibb stated. " I appreciate the support and cooperation of the University of Maryland athletic department in providing their facility and look forward to the potential homecoming of sorts for former Terrapins and current Mystics stars Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman."

Comcast Center is home to the University of Maryland women's and men's basketball teams. The facility was completed in the fall of 2002 and also houses the university's athletic administration offices.

"Having Crystal and Marissa back on the court where their names and numbers became legendary would be great. It will be our pleasure to open our doors to the Mystics and their terrific fans. They've had a fun season to follow," said Maryland Head Women's Basketball Coach, Brenda Freese. "We hope it happens and they get a chance to see why we think the Comcast Center is the best basketball facility in the country. We'll also encourage as many of our fans as possible to come out and make it a real home court advantage."

The Mystics are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference and will host the Seattle Storm on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. Season tickets for the 2009 and 2010 seasons as well as group tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com.
