Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

ONE-RUN REMIX: Saturday night's loss marked the Pelicans' fourth consecutive one-run defeat sandwiched around two victories over the Potomac Nationals. The Birds started the season 6-4 in one-run games and just 1-2 on the road but have now fallen to 1-6 away from BB&T Coastal Field in such tight affairs. Salem, meanwhile, is 8-1 in one-run games in a schedule that includes just nine road games to this point against the 16 the Pelicans have played.

DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA: With Salem's three one-run victories to begin this series, the last six games between the Pelicans and Red Sox have now been decided by a single tally. Myrtle Beach knocked Salem out of the second-half playoff race last season with back-to-back 3-2 wins at BB&T Coastal Field on August 24th and 25th followed by a 5-4 Red Sox win in the finale. Even the prior series was a tight one with Salem taking a 5-4 win on July 26 in Virginia and a 4-2 victory two days later bookending a 5-2 Pelicans win in the middle affair.

SINGLED OUT (AGAIN): The Pelicans have fell victim this weekend to not being able to build a big inning. Saturday night, the Pelicans' only runs came on solo-shot homers by Mike Olt and Chris McGuiness, and Myrtle Beach did not put multiple baserunners aboard simultaneously in a frame at any time. On Friday, despite out-hitting the Red Sox 8-3, the Pelicans fell 2-1 due in part to not having a single extra-base hit.Thursday, Myrtle Beach had just one, Jared Hoying's two-run double in the fourth of a 4-3 loss.
