Hillcats Fall in See-Saw Battle

Winston-Salem, NC - Lynchburg led at three different points in the game, but eventually lost 7-4 to Winston-Salem Sunday afternoon.

The Hillcats struck first as Todd Cunningham led off the game with a walk and scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The lead didn't last long as the Dash nearly mirrored the Hillcats in the bottom of the frame. Daniel Wagner led off with a walk and scored on an RBI groundout evening the game at 1-1 after the first.

Winston-Salem then took their first lead in the bottom of the second. Nick Ciolli homered to left putting the Dash up 2-1.

The ‘Cats came back with two in the fourth. Joe Leonard triple home Joey Terdoslavich. Two batters later, he scored a sacrifice fly from Braeden Schlehuber. The lead changed once again as the Hillcats went up 3-2.

Both teams traded runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth innings making it 4-3 Lynchburg.

It was all Dash starting in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Shelton plated two runners on an RBI double with two outs putting Winston-Salem up 5-4. The home team added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings as well.

RHP Taylor Thompson entered the game in the ninth with a 7-4 lead. He allowed one hit to Cunningham but allowed no runs, earning his third save of the season, and securing the 7-4 win for the Dash.

Winston-Salem's starter, Cameron Bayne (3-3), surrendered four runs in five innings, but earned the win. Willie Kempf (2-2) tossed the third, fourth and fifth, for the Hillcats, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five and took the loss.

Lynchburg will get the day off Monday before welcoming the Frederick Keys to town for a three game series beginning Tuesday night at City Stadium. First pitch will be at 6:05 when LHP Matt Crim will take the mound for the ‘Cats against RHP Bobby Bundy for the Keys.
