Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
For the second consecutive night, the Pelicans fell in head-scratching fashion to the Red Sox Friday evening at Salem Memorial Ballpark, and in game two of this four-game set, it was Robbie Erlin who was the tough-luck loser. Erlin turned in another dominant outing in which he retired 20 of the 21 men he faced including eight by strikeout without issuing a single walk. Peter Hissey, the owner of exactly one professional home run going into Friday night--against, of course, the Pelicans last summer here at Salem Memorial Ballpark--connected with his second in the first inning with one out and the bases empty. Not a single Red Sox hitter sniffed base again after that. Erlin has now allowed just two runs on four hits in his last 21 innings, each of them on solo-shot homers. He has struck out 24 batters against one walk in that span.
WELCOME BACK, MAC: Saturday night marks the return of Pelicans first baseman Chris McGuiness to the lineup where he takes up his usual spot in front of Mike Olt in the three hole. McGuiness went on the disabled list with a strained oblique on April 27 and hasn't seen action since. The Pelicans were 12-5 with the Charleston native in the lineup to start the season and have gone 5-6 in his eleven-game absence. Tonight's game is not just any old return from the DL for McGuiness. Chris will be facing many of his former teammates from Greenville and Lowell in the Boston Red Sox organization. Boston traded him to the Rangers on July 31, 2010 as part of the Jarrod Saltalamacchia deal. McGuiness returns to the lineup riding an 11-game on-base streak. Shortstop Leury Garcia is also back in the order after being removed early from Thursday night's game and getting a night off on Friday.
