WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Andy Wilkins blasted a three-run home run with two outs in the first inning, leading Winston-Salem to a 5-3 win Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. With the win, the Dash put together two straight wins for the first time since the first week of the season.

The Dash (11-18) jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning. Daniel Wagner singled to begin the frame, and then moved to second base after a single by Jared Mitchell. Both runners moved into scoring position after stealing second and third as Ian Gac struck out. With two outs, Wilkins hammered a home run beyond the right field fence. Jake Oester followed the homer by reaching second base on a throwing error by second baseman Matt Weaver. Kyle Shelton then doubled to right, scoring Oester and putting the Dash up 4-0.

Winston-Salem starter Hector Santiago limited Lynchburg (10-17) to three hits through the first four innings, and his only hiccups came in the fifth. L.V. Ware led off the frame with his second home run of the season. Braeden Schlehuber singled, advanced to second on Andrelton Simmons' infield single, and then to third when Phil Gosselin was hit by a pitch. Keenan Wiley singled off the glove of Kyle Shelton to score Schlehuber, but Simmons was thrown out at home during the play to end the threat and make the score 4-2.

That score held into the eighth inning, when Gac doubled to open up the frame and later came around to score on a wild pitch thrown by reliever Eliecer Cardenas.

Schlehuber added a lead-off home run in the ninth to bring Lynchburg within two, but the Hillcats were retired in order after that to end the ballgame.

Santiago (1-0) got his first win of the season after he gave up two runs in six innings of work. Cory Rasmus (0-3) gave up four runs in two innings to get the loss. Ryan Kussmaul earned his first save of the season.
