Murray Hood to Be Inducted into Admirals Hall of Fame

NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Admirals announced today forward Murray Hood will be the newest member inducted into the Admirals Hall of Fame. His induction will occur in a pre-game ceremony on Friday, April 8, prior to the Admirals facing the South Carolina Stingrays at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Widely regarded as one of the top centermen in ECHL Admirals history, Murray Hood started his career in 1989 with the Greensboro Monarchs. Hood joined Hampton Roads that season as part of a trade for Admirals Hall-of-Famer, Brian Martin. Hood's tenure with Norfolk epitomizes "short, but sweet."
The 1989-90 season was his first in North American professional hockey. In 56 games played Hood amassed 15 goals, 69 assists, and 84 total points, leading the team that season. Although he would miss the playoffs due to illness, his offensive talent was undeniable and would prove to be an integral part of the Admirals franchise.
His second season would dwarf the first in terms of individual achievement and team success. That season Hood and the Admirals secured their first Riley Cup Championship. Twenty-seven years later, Hood's 82 assists remain the most by any Admiral in franchise history. Hood added 21 goals that season for 103 total points in just 64 regular season games.
Hood received extra motivation during the Riley Cup Championship as the Admirals faced his former team, the Greensboro Monarchs. Scoring an impressive six goals, 16 assists, and 22 points in 14 playoff games, his outstanding play helped dominate the Monarchs in a four-games-to-one Riley Cup series victory.
The next season, Hood ended his playing career with Hampton Roads. In 18 games that year, he quickly amassed 23 assists and 27 points. Hood's effectiveness continued beyond the ice, too. He was quickly offered a spot as an assistant coach helping to lead the Admirals to their second consecutive Riley Cup.
In just 138 games for the Admirals, Hood compiled 174 assists, ranking him fourth on the all-time ECHL franchise list behind fellow Hall-of-Famers Victor Gervais, Rod Taylor, and Brian Martin. His 214 total points remain sixth in franchise scoring. What may turn out to be the best trade in ECHL Admirals history, Hood is memorialized as an All-Star and a champion.
