Murphy's Law Rules

August 18, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Bill Murphy was 0-7 lifetime against the Lancaster Barnstormers heading into Tuesday's matchup at Campbell's Field. He was not about to lose his eighth straight.

The left-hander checked the Barnstormers on two singles while striking out 10, sending Lancaster to its worst loss of the season, 11-0, to the Camden Riversharks.

Lancaster's lead over York was once again cut back to three games with 32 remaining on the schedule.

Murphy remained virtually untouched all evening. He did not allow a baserunner until his own throwing error on a Zach Collier bunt opened the fourth inning. Lancaster's first hit was tainted as shortstop Brandon Chaves and left fielder Daniel Rockett miscommunicated, allowing a Lance Zawadzki pop fly to drop in, one out into the fifth.

Collier added a second hit, a clean single into right in the eighth inning.

The lefty received more support than he heeded. Carlos Guzman drove in the first two runs of the night on infield outs, then added a two-run double in the fourth. Joel Guzman had three hits and three RBI. Even Zach MacPhee, batting .162 at gametime, chimed in with three hits and two RBI.

Joe Gardner (7-4) was reached for a single run in the first and three more in the third. Camden put the game away with five in the fourth inning, four of which were unearned following an error by second baseman Yusuke Kajimoto on a wide throw trying to start a double play.

Overall, Gardner yielded 10 hits and nine runs, five earned, in 3 2/3 innings. Daniel Moskos allowed two runs on four hits in the sixth while four other Lancaster relievers pitched scoreless baseball.

The Barnstormers return to action on Wednesday evening with left-hander Nate Reed (3-7) to square off against right-hander Eric Smith (2-5). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Anderson Feliz had his hitting streak snapped at 12 games...The loss was Lancaster's worst since May 28, 2014, when the Long Island Ducks won, 19-3 at Clipper Magazine Stadium...Lancaster has alternated wins and losses for the last week...The shutout was the record 13th of the season by opposing staffs and the fifth complete game whitewash.
