Hagerstown Suns News Release

The home of the Hagerstown Suns is an oldie, but a goodie. Recently the website, StadiumJourney.com, published an exposé on historic Municipal Stadium, detailing the quaint, nostalgic confines of the "Old Ballpark off Memorial Boulevard."

Geoff Crawley, a Stadium Journey Regional Correspondent, titled his review, The Stadium that Time Forgot. The glowing appraisal of Hub City's premier baseball venue evaluated the food and beverage service, atmosphere, neighborhood Influence, fan involvement, access to the stadium, return on the investment, and extra intangibles, while providing some closing thoughts.

Crawley writes, "Step into the time machine with me. Built in 1930 (in six weeks), it [Municipal Stadium] bleeds history..."

In describing the imprint of seasons gone by at Municipal Stadium he reminds the readers, "There's something about sitting a few feet away from the spot where Willie Mays took his first professional at-bat. It is seriously like watching a game in the 1950's."

The reviewer describes the bevy of food and drink options abound the concourse at the "Muni" by remarking, "You name it, it is here." Underscoring the bounty of stadium fare, he was especially impressed with the dozen types of beer that come on tap for a very affordable price.

Concerning the return on a potential fan's investment, the author reminds us that no food item in the park is priced higher than $10, and the value of the Chipotle Friends and Family Deal (four tickets, four Suns hats, and four meals from Chipotle for $24.99) received high praise.

The critic depicts the "awesome" subtleties that emanate from the hometown Hagerstown park by explaining, "[The family section] is a great place to teach your kid about the game being played the right way. The players are very interactive, as is the staff. They do a lot to entertain, and they do a remarkable job with no modern crutches."

Crawley's firsthand account of Municipal Stadium would not be complete without an evaluation of the Suns Fan Base. In portraying the Suns Faithful, the writer says, "These fans know baseball. They keep score, like an actual scorecard. They know the players by name and actually have conversations with them."

Bringing his Municipal Stadium experience to final deliberation, this Stadium Journey reporter opines, "The nostalgia and history are heavy here. If you find yourself in Central Maryland, far Northern Virginia, or the West Virginia panhandle (heck, south central Pennsylvania is close enough) this will make a good day trip."

Crawley eloquently ends his review by stating, "...if you view [Municipal Stadium] from the eyes of a baseball fan it is a thing of beauty."
