Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - After trailing by four through most of Tuesday's game, the Augusta GreenJackets scored four times in the eighth to tie things before pushing a run home in the ninth on a sacrifice fly to earn a 5-4 win over the Lexington Legends and avoid their first series sweep of the year.

Chris Dominguez broke for home with the bases loaded in the ninth after Skyler Stromsmoe popped out to very shallow right field. The gamble paid off as Dominguez's crafty slide eluded a tag by Lexington catcher Ben Heath to give the GreenJackets their 12th walkoff win of the year. The Jackets won without a hit in the ninth inning, loading the bases on two walks and a hit batsman.

Augusta trailed through seven and a half innings, but tied the game with four runs on four hits and a walk in an eighth inning where the GreenJackets sent eight men to the plate. Luke Anders singled home a run early in the frame to put Augusta on the board. The GreenJackets loaded the bases with two outs for Nick Liles and Liles delivered with a bases-clearing, game-tying double into the left field corner to knot the game at four.

The Legends had dominated most of the game, scoring four times in the first and holding that lead with dominant pitching throughout. Kelvin Marte surrendered four runs on four hits in the first, with Jacob Goebbert's RBI single providing the first Lexington run and Kody Hinze following with a first pitch, three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Legends a commanding 4-0 lead in the first.

Lexington starter Jose Cisnero made the lead hold through seven masterful innings. He retired the first 16 hitters he faced and the only hit he allowed - an infield single to Hector Sanchez with one out in the sixth - was erased on a double play ball to allow Cisnero to face the minimum through his seven scoreless innings. But thanks to Augusta's late heroics, Cisnero didn't get a decision in a game where he allowed just one baserunner and struck out four.

Jeremy Toole (5-5) kept the GreenJackets in the game, throwing three scoreless innings of one-hit relief following Marte's six inning stint. Marte settled down as well, allowing only three hits in his final five innings. Wander Alvino (5-4) allowed the winning run and took the loss for the Legends.

The GreenJackets wrap up their Southern Division schedule with a 51-43 record within their division. They'll play the last 12 games of the regular season against opponents from the Northern Division, starting with the first of a four-game series against the West Virginia Power on Wednesday night. Andy Reichard (3-1, 3.54) gets the ball for the GreenJackets and will face lefty Eliecer Navarro (1-1, 3.90). First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
