Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators got down early for the second straight game and the Greensboro Grasshoppers cruised to a 7-1 victory to win the five-game series three-games-to-two on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro.

Against starter Matt Wickswat, fresh off his no-hitter on Friday, he went the first two innings without a hit but then walked two batters to lead off the third and an RBI-single by Jose Duarte plated both runners after a bunt and the Grasshoppers (30-28) were on top 2-0. Wickswat (7-6) went five innings and allowed two runs.

Those runs would be all the Grasshoppers would need as the Intimidators (28-30) could not solve the starter for the second straight day. Robert Morey went five innings and narrowly dodged a bullet in the fifth as Jake Oester was a few feet from hitting a grad slam. He did not allow a run and Morey (1-2) achieved his first win as a professional after being selected in the fifth round in the 2010 draft. After Morey came Zach Robertson who pitched 3.2 innings, but allowed an RBI single to Juan Silverio in the ninth for the Intimidators lone run of the game. With the bases loaded in the final frame, Luis Chirinos threw three pitches to end the game.

The Grasshoppers worked the final five runs of the day off the Intimidators bullpen as an error in the seventh helped the Hoppers put up a four-run inning.

The Intimidators lost their second straight game and lost the series, putting a huge dent into their playoff hopes. They will return home on Wednesday to take on the Lexington Legends for game one of a four game series beginning at 7:05 to start the final homestand at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Cameron Bayne will oppose Zach Grimmett in the contest.
