Mudcats split double header

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats split a double header with the Chattanooga Lookouts Saturday night at Five County Stadium. Carolina won the second of two seven inning contests by a score of 2-1, after dropping the first game 11-2.

Game one starter Camilo Vazquez (L, 2-2) yielded five earned runs in only 3.1 innings on the hill. The Mudcats' bullpen fared no better, with Ramon Geronimo and Jerry Gil surrendering a combined six earned runs.

In game one, five Lookouts posted five multi-hit performances. Three Chattanooga hitters had multiple RBI's, led by Ramon Nivar, who drove in three.

Mudcats game two starter Tom Cochran (W, 2-3) threw five innings, allowing an unearned run. The lefty fanned six Lookout hitters. Logan Ondrusek (S, 5) pitched the 7th inning to earn the save.

Pinch-hitter Steven Chapman belted a two-run dinger in the fifth inning of the nightcap off Chattanooga starter Travis Chick (L, 6-5), accounting for all of the Carolina offense.

The series finale is set for 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium. Lefty Travis Wood will take the hill for the Mudcats (8-3, 1.29) against fellow left-hander Alberto Bastardo (2-1, 4.05) of the Lookouts.
