Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - In the rubber game of this five-game series at Trustmark Park, 1,791 fans watched as Travis Jones put on a one-man show Sunday afternoon. Mississippi's second baseman went 3-3 with his fourth homer of the year and four RBI. He accounted for all four M-Braves runs and made several nice plays in the field as well.

Huntsville got out to a quick start Sunday afternoon as Yohannis Perez singled, moved to third on a single by Drew Anderson and scored on a single by Vinny Rottino. After one, the Stars led 1-0, the Braves would answer in the second. Travis Jones shot a single to right that scored Concepcion Rodriguez to tie the score at one.

The Stars offense went back to work in the third. Shane Justis singled and scored on Taylor Green's grounder that ricocheted off of Jones' glove and into right field. With runners on the corners, the Braves got out of the inning when Vinny Rottino struck out swinging and Green was caught in a rundown between third and first.

Jones struck again in the fourth. In his second at-bat, Jones belted the M-Braves first three-run homer of the year. His fourth bomb of 2009 gave the Braves a 4-2 lead.

Drew Anderson's homer in the ninth made the final, 4-3.

Kyle Cofield had a quality start for the M-Braves as he surrendered only two runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. He left the game with a 4-2 lead. Deunte Heath threw two scoreless innings and Brett Butts retired the only batter he faced to earn his third save of 2009.

Mark Holliman gave up four runs through 3.2 innings. David Welch threw 2.1 scoreless innings and Bobby Bramhall tossed one shutout inning. Robert Hinton tossed one scoreless inning.

The M-Braves enjoy a day off Monday before heading to Kodiak, TN to take on the Tennessee Smokies in a five-game series at Smokies Park. The Braves return to Trustmark Park on Monday, July 27th against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.
